SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina (DOD) –

Helped by advancements in golf technology, Mark “Q-Ball’ Kimmet overcame a severe case of the shanks to win the 2012 Southern Pines Invitational on Sunday. Firing a final round plus three, Q-Ball held off a surging Toby “Hoss Cartwright” Hyke to win the tournament by two points at plus nine.  In so doing, Kimmet claimed his second Terrapin Travelin’ Trophy in eight years, last having won the coveted Turtle in 2004. Gentlemen, start your putters!  Three weeks separate us from the 2012 Golf Trip!  We are looking forward to another banner year as we return to the Ross Lodge with sixteen players.  We've had a little turn over in the ranks, with Greg Goddard and Michael Moser unable to participate due to injuries.   Moser's spot as Greg Logue's partner will be assumed by newcomer and former lumberjack Andy Neely.   Also a first time player, Rob Shelor will step in as Toby Hyke's partner.  Our loss is the Lord's gain, as Monty  Walton has opted for worthier pursuits in Divinity School.  Walton's place  will be taken by Tracy Thompson, who returns following a three-year hiatus.

As tournament time nears, peruse the new player profiles starting here.  The Initial Quotas Chart is here.  You may also want  to check the following links for important updates: Tournament Invitation, Tournament Rules, Calcutta Invitation, Calcutta Rules, Room Assignments, and Tee Times, and Parings

For a lighter view of the subject, check below for John Denver's ode to bad golf via "18 Holes," with apologies to Tennessee Ernie Ford.  Good luck and here's to hitting them long and straight!
